2019 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Select Andre Dillard

With the 22nd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected tackle Andre Dillard from Washington State.

The Philadelphia Eagles moved up three spots in the first round to select tackle Andre Dillard. A four-year starter in college, Dillard is a high-character player who may eventually replace longtime left tackle Jason Peters in Philadelphia. The recent addition of running back Jordan Howard also makes this a smart decision with an eye toward the future.

Fantasy Impact of Andre Dillard

Dillard gets off the line of scrimmage quickly and has good balance and agility. He has good length and can stave off would-be pass rushers attacking from the outside with quick, stiff jabs. These characteristics make him an asset in both pass coverage and run blocking. He should be an important piece of the Eagles’ O-Line for years to come.

However, the selection of Dillard does not figure to have a huge impact for fantasy purposes as we look ahead to the 2019 season. His presence certainly will not hurt a unit that really struggled to run the football. Philadelphia finished 31st in rushing yards per attempt and 29th in total rushing yards. But with Peters and Lane Johnson returning as starters, Dillard seems destined for a reserve/depth role in his rookie season. Peters graded out as an above-average tackle according to Pro Football Focus despite his advanced age.

Philadelphia’s offense should be improved in all areas in 2019. But Dillard’s contributions do not figure to be a major reason why. The health of quarterback Carson Wentz will be the prevailing factor that determines the value of the rest of the individual pieces on offense.
